About

About

IDEAS-Lab brings together researchers in statistics with expertise in social statistics, epidemiology, and data science. The group aims to contribute to the understanding of complex societal challenges through rigorous quantitative methods and interdisciplinary collaboration. The lab is affiliated with the Department of Statistical Sciences at the University of Padova and collaborates with national and international institutions.

Giovanna Boccuzzo

Giovanna Boccuzzo

Giovanna Boccuzzo is Full Professor of Social Statistics at the University of Padova. Her research focuses on social and health statistics, with particular expertise in frailty, healthy ageing, composite indicators, and causal inference. She has been Scientific Officer for the University of Padua within the AGE-IT national partnership and co-leads Spoke 4 on trajectories for active and healthy ageing. Her work integrates advanced statistical methods, social epidemiology, and health data analysis to study risk factors and inequalities across the life course. She has extensively published on frailty measurement, multimorbidity, and ageing-related health outcomes.

Margherita Silan

Margherita Silan

Margherita Silan is a Tenure Track Researcher in Social Statistics at the University of Padova. Her research interests regard methods on constructing composite indicators, based both on classical and on multi-criteria approaches, such as Partially Ordered Set Theory, applied in particular to the evaluation of gender equality and for the identification of frail subjects and causal inference approaches, applied in particular to the study of neighbourhood effects on health. She is Principal Investigator of a FIS3 project called DIAMOND (Data Integration Approaches for a Multidimensional hOlistic representation of Neighbourhood Deprivation) funded by the Italian Ministry of University and Research.

Pietro Belloni

Pietro Belloni

Pietro Belloni is a researcher in statistics at the University of Padova. He works mainly on social, epidemiological and medical data, using both statistics and machine learning. He also has some expertise in pharmacovigilance and natural language processing.

Maurizio Nicolaio

Maurizio Nicolaio

Maurizio Nicolaio is a research fellow at the Department of Statistical Sciences of the University of Padova. His research interests regard methods on constructing composite indicators, social and health statistics, with a particular focus on frailty measurement and healthy ageing.

Annalisa Donno

Annalisa Donno

Annalisa Donno is a researcher in social statistics and demography at the University of Padova. Her work focuses on ageing, frailty, health, and well-being in later life. Her studies investigate frailty by considering the combined role of medical, physical, and social factors. Drawing on administrative and survey data, she applies quantitative methods to analyse complex ageing processes, health and social inequalities, and the interplay between clinical conditions, social resources, and well-being among older adults.

Erika Banzato

Erika Banzato

Erika Banzato is a statistician at the University of Padova. Her research focuses on multimorbidity and frailty, with particular interest in understanding how these two complex conditions interact and evolve throughout later life. She works on the development and application of novel statistical and methodological approaches for the study of population health and ageing. Her research also explores sex differences in health, investigating how patterns of multimorbidity and frailty manifest differently in men and women.
